Late in 2024, we organized our first-ever WXPN Homegrown Live concert — a free showcase of Philadelphia talent performing onstage in The Lounge at World Cafe Live. The lineup was made up of three finalists from the WXPN 24 Hour Song Challenge, and to kick off 2025, we’re bringing you video of each of those performances.
This week, our first Homegrown Live series concludes with a performance by Delaware-based, Brooklyn-born rapper and singer-songwriter Yuneer Gainz. He caught our attention during the 24-hour song challenge with the cathartic and captivating “Grown Man Tears,” and given a full half hour onstage, Gainz and his band — guitarist Sam Mandell and keyboardist / producer Andrew J. Miller — stretched out and showcased his range, from high-octane confidence boosting bangers like “Win Again” to aching and vulnerable moments like “Flight,” a dedication to a close friend who passed away.
The set hit on highlights from Gainz’ back catalog on streaming services, and debuted two brand new cuts at its conclusion — the reflective “Back Home” and the infectious “Phenomenal,” which ended his performance on a massive high. Watch the whole set above, check out photos from it below. And for more, give him a follow on the socials at @yuneergainz.
