Jessica Lea Mayfield played for a full house at Johnny Brenda’s on Tuesday, January 28th as part of her winter 2025 tour. The run of shows comes with the recent release of her new single “Choose Myself” and ahead of a new EP that Mayfield has in the works. The three-set line up for Tuesday night included Philly indie-rock singer songwriter, Lowercase Roses and Brooklyn singer-songwriter Margaux supporting Mayfield.

Matt Scheuermann of lowercase roses had a couple friends with him at Johnny Brenda’s – Keith Abrams on bass and Jarrett Nathan on drums – to perform brand new songs, oldish songs, and a cover of Lucinda Williams’ “Passionate Kisses.”  After finishing the opening set with a solo song, Scheuermann gave  us a little “Go Birds” to make sure there were good vibes for the night. With her new record Inside the Marble (released in 2024), Margaux serenaded the Fishtown crowd with delicate vocals combined with electric guitar.

An excited crowd filled the upstairs levels of the corner bar as Jessica Lea Mayfield took the stage with her bandmates, Nate Moran (drums) and Greyson Beffa (bass). She filled her 14-track set Tuesday night with a mix of her past albums including songs from the 2017 album Sorry is Gone and the 2014 album Make My Head Sing. The way Mayfield manages to blend her soft vocals with the rock show energy of her band gives the whole set a warm, energetic but also relaxing feeling.

Sam Acchione of Alex G’s band joined Mayfield on stage towards the end of the set to perform “Choose Myself.” The humorous side of Mayfield came out between songs when she had little lighthearted comments to share and keep the crowd smiling. After the final song “Do I have the Time,” she “pretended to leave the stage” then reappeared and finished the night with two solo songs.

Jessica Lea Mayfield’s tour continues tonight in Brattleboro, Vermont’s Stone Church; visits Toronto’s Monarch Tavern on Sunday, February 2nd, and wraps at Mr. Smalls in Millvale, Pennsylvania on Tuesday the 4th.
