You can hear five previously unreleased tracks from indie rock favorites Big Thief today. The new EP Passional Relations, available to purchase for download on their website, supports victims of the Los Angeles fires. The majority of its proceeds benefit PLUS1LA FIRES FUND, and the rest, directly to local musicians, artists, and community members who need the support.
“Our hearts are broken for everyone affected by the fires in California,” Big Thief say. “Our hope is that these contributions will not only help address the crucial and immediate needs of affected communities but also help sustain the work, identity, and culture of the artists within them.”
The first four songs were recorded alongside the last Big Thief album, 2022’s Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You, and the last song is a demo recorded in 2018 before U.F.O.F. and Two Hands were made. Fans of the broader Big Thief universe will recognize vocals by Mat Davidson of Twain on “Waiting on Blue,” a twinkling ballad. And Adrianne Lenker’s popular solo song “Zombie Girl” get an aqueous reimagining as well (gently rushing water overlays the sweet song).
Passional Relations is available now here.
