John R. Miller Free at Noon - 02.28.25

West Virginia native John R. Miller took the World Cafe Live stage today for an exceptional Free at Noon concert. The country folk singer played by himself, using a mix of acoustic guitars and playing old songs and new.

Miller played multiple songs from his most recent album, Heat Comes Down, released back in 2023 by Rounder Records. While the album is technically listed as country, many could argue folk is the essence of his work. He kicked off the concert with “Nobody Has to Know Your Mind,” providing so much more than just a guitar and his voice, but top-notch songwriting. His usage of symbolism and metaphors in his lyrics are what make the writing so special, not to mention a true southern singing voice to match it.

Miller continued the set list with the songs “Ditcher,” “Harpers Ferry Moon,” and “Looking For a Place to Die” two of the three being on Heat Comes Down. These songs loosened everyone up, getting into a faster pace as Miller approached the halfway point of the concert. The second half included “Conspiracies, Cults & UFOs,” a song that echoes Johnny Cash and Tyler Childers, mixing an upbeat rhythm with impressive guitar play and soulful singing.

Miller plays tonight in Wayne, PA at 118 North, and is on tour from now through May. Check out his full tour schedule here and see photos from Free At Noon below.
