Tamino on World Cafe

A few years ago, Tamino moved into a Manhattan apartment, and he began sketching out the songs for his new album, Every Dawn’s a Mountain.

He calls the record “an altar to loss.”

“Building an altar for what is lost is a good way to work through that,” the Belgian Egyptian musicians says. “It’s necessary to give it a space.”

In this session, Tamino joins us to talk about making his new album, working with Mitski on the song “Sanctuary,” and why he’s struggled to fully embrace his earlier work.

“In a sense, loving your earlier work is loving your younger self, and I think there’s something very important about that,” he says.

Plus, Tamino performs in front of a live audience at World Cafe.
