The Angies are a force to be reckoned with in Philly music. Led by indomitable lead vocalist Taralynn Gilligan, the four-piece band makes violent music for a violent world: blistering tempos, scorched-earth distortion, and raw screams fill this Key Studio Sessions set, as do remarkably catchy hooks and melodies that will grab the attention of anyone who’s spent time listening to punk rock over the past 40 or so years.
The Angies’ most recent release is last year’s Body Farm EP, and in this Key Studio Sessions set, the band — which also includes charismatic guitarist Sebastian Haurin, bassist Josh Turner, and drummer Mitchell Emerson — kicks things off with a bone-chilling performance of that project’s fan fave, “Squeal.” From there, the rising stars share two as-yet unreleased songs: “Nothin’ At All,” an appropriately nihilistic jam about giving your passions your all (literally), and “In The Hand,” a slice of Sonic Youth-esque squalor meditating on pain and resistance. The set is over in less then nine minutes and you’ll want to run it back as soon as it’s finished.

The band’s next Philadelphia show on the books happens June 14th at Kung Fu Necktie, though they may announce a spring gig or two before that; keep tabs on them at @deathtotheangies.
