The Nigerian-American singer-songwriter Uwade got her start in the Charlotte, North Carolina music scene in the late 20-teens, and last Friday, released her vibrant debut LP Florilegium through Thirty Tigers. Drawing on pensive melodic pop and Afrobeat rhythms, with a range of influences from The Strokes to Fela Kuti to Greek and Roman classics, Uwade’s music is an eclectic blend, and she brought it to World Cafe Live for a Free at Noon concert this Friday. See photos from the show below, and listen to the music here, and for more, revisit a performance Uwade shared with WUNC in Chapel Hill in 2022 via NPR Live Sessions.
