Joining us in the studio for this Indie Rock Hit Parade session is an in-demand touring musician who’s taking a bold step into the spotlight. After nearly a decade with her previous band, TEEN, Teeny Lieberson has found steady work as a touring member of Sleater-Kinney and, most recently, as part of Sharon Van Etten’s band, The Attachment Theory. On the heels of the latter group’s acclaimed LP, Lieberson’s latest solo project, Lou Tides delivers its own debut with Autostatic!.

Produced by Bartees Strange, Autostatic! finds Lieberson throwing herself completely into the Lou Tides persona. Atop churning, industrial-inspired textures, Lieberson’s acrobatic voice is distorted, detuned, and deconstructed; the effect is not unlike Laurie Anderson’s pitch-shifted “Voice of Authority,” giving Lou Tides’ songs a sinister edge. On the album, the songs are built around richly textured sequences, built from the ground up by Lieberson and Strange. In this in-studio performance, Lou Tides takes on a trio formation, with drummer Sarah Galdes and Attachment Theory bassist Devra Hoff bringing the tracks to life.
