Greg Freeman’s woodsy rock rumbles at Free At Noon
Accompanied by drums, bass, slide guitar, and some avant-garde tenor and soprano sax features, Greg Freeman led a roaring jam of woodsy rock n roll.
With a voice that crossed Neil Young and Modest Mouse’s Isaac Brock, Burlington alt-rocker Greg Freeman performed a Free At Noon set from 2022’s raucous I Looked Out and the forthcoming Burnover, out August 22nd.
Accompanied by drums, bass, slide guitar, and some avant-garde tenor and soprano sax features, Freeman led a roaring jam of woodsy rock n roll. The subsequent wall of noise was just dynamic enough to be tasteful and not deafening. Fans of Wilco’s A.M. will find a lot to love in Freeman’s twang. So will fans of MJ Lenderman’s Manning Fireworks, especially if they appreciate Freeman’s high energy performance in contrast with Lenderman’s deadpan.
After stopping in Philadelphia today, Greg Freeman plays New York City’s Knockdown City Saturday. Freeman and the band will tour the U.K. later this summer. His new album Burnover comes out August 22nd and is available to pre-order on Bandcamp now.
