Two indie favorites, Pixies and Kurt Vile, are in the midst of their summer tour and brought  tunes and vibes to The Fillmore Philadelphia for two mid-week, mid-summer shows. For Pixies, fans  got to hear Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde performed in full and live; for Vile, his new Classic Love EP is out in a couple days, but his set focused on other corners of his catalog.

Hometown singer-songwriter Kurt Vile has been touring with Pixies for the summer and started the night with a 50-minute performance. His eight song set list featured his scope of work, stretching back to 2013’sWakin On A Pretty Daze all the way up to the 2023 record Back to Moon Beach. It was a Kurt Vile show that any longtime follower would expect, with him in the zone, covered in his trademark long hair, fully focused on the music. The minimal-nonsense, music-heavy vibe carried over to Pixies two-hour headlining set too.

Pixies fit in a few of their older hits at the end of the night as an encore, but the multi-page set list was essentially the full Bossanova and Trompe Le Monde albums straight through. With minimal breaks between songs, the band played nearly two straight hours to fit in the 30-song setlist. There was a crowd filling the floor from when doors opened to the last note played who were in it for the long haul, obviously not too worried about whether or not they’d be awake for work Wednesday. Jam packed with such an array of classics from Pixies and modern classics from Kurt, even without this being a big outdoor concert, it had the feel of being one of the big summer concerts of the season.
