BRONCHO’s hazy rock and chill energy set the mood for Free At Noon
The Tulsa band’s new album mixes fuzzy textures, offbeat charm, and understated hooks.
Tulsa-based band BRONCHO borught their hazy, guitar-driven indie rock to the Free at Noon stage today.
The band’s atmospheric new album Natural Pleasure was released in April, and mixes of fuzzy textures, offbeat charm, and understated hooks that feel right at home in the middle of summer. That was the energy at Free At Noon on this 95-degree day: soft and hazy, mildly rumbling, but overall chill.
The band used the top half of their set to showcase the new record’s highlights: the murmuring “Funny” and “I Swear,” the more upbeat “Original Guilty” and “I’ll Pass.” For the back half of the show, they dipped into their extensive back-catalog: “Sandman” from 2018’s Bad Behavior; “What” and “Class Historian,” the first and second track on 2014’s Just Hip Enough To Be Woman; and “Try Me Out Sometime” from 2011’s Can’t Get Past The Lips.
BRONCHO plays a sold-out show at Johnny Brenda’s Friday night before continuing their summer tour, which runs through mid-September; full dates here.
