Philadelphia singer-songwriter, author, and DJ Joey Sweeney is joining WXPN as the Saturday morning host of Sleepy Hollow.

Sweeney is a fixture in the city’s cultural community, and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the show. He’s been making music in the city as a solo artist and in an array of bands since the early 90s; his fondness for vivid narrative lyrics and bright, acoustic-forward arrangements make his songs pop in the spirit of John Prine and Jeff Tweedy. He also has an extensive background as a journalist and tastemaker; he wrote for Philadelphia Weekly and City Paper in the late 90s and early 00s before moving on to outlets like Salon and The Philadelphia Inquirer, and founding Philebrity, Philadelphia’s first cityblog, in 2005. His DJ chops have shone over the years at events like his legendary Belle & Sebastian dance parties. These days, Sweeney is creative director at 48 Record Bar, the vinyl-oriented listening room and event space in Old City.

Sweeney says he’s honored to continue the 50+ year legacy of Sleepy Hollow. “It’s a dream time slot — to connect with folks in this soulful, contemplative moment in their week is something really special,” he says. “Having only recently discovered mornings myself, I can’t wait to share the best, deepest music I can find.”

WXPN program director Jim McGuinn says Sweeney is the perfect fit for Sleepy Hollow. “He understands that this show isn’t just about music—it’s about mood, intention, and shared experience. We’re thrilled to welcome him to the Saturday morning airwaves.”

Sweeney will begin regularly hosting Saturdays on Sleepy Hollow on August 9th; he’ll be on-air from 6 to 10 a.m. Keith Kelleher will continue hosting Sundays, with veteran Sleepy Hollow hosts David Dye and Chuck Elliott providing occasional airshifts.
