John Morrison on DJ Shadow’s ‘Endtroducing’

When John Morrison first heard DJ Shadow’s 1996 debut album, it felt like his whole world of music had opened up.

“I was 16 years old, and as a young beat maker and wannabe bedroom DJ, hearing this, it just blew me away,” says the World Cafe correspondent.

On this new episode of Culture Corner, Morrison talks about how DJ Shadow made ‘Endtroducing’ and the variety of samples he combined.

“It’s a collage of sounds, but also a collage of cultures, a collage of different moments in time — a drum will come from the ’60s; a horn will come from the ’80s.”
