Sylvan Esso says “being able to laugh” is what saves them

Sylvan Esso’s new album took shape amid hurricanes, wildfires, and a growing sense of dread about the current state of the world.

“This sensation that we’re never going to be able to fully stand up again… [is a thing that] I think about all the time,” says producer Nick Sanborn.

Despite the heaviness, Sylvan Esso’s ‘Ow Infinity’ leans into humor. “Being about to laugh or poke fun at something” is what saves them from the doom and gloom.

“Ow Infinity. A promise, a dream, a decision to continue living despite the fact that we continue being hurt,” says singer Amelia Meath.
