Angine de Poitrine | Artist to Watch – June 2026

Hometown: Saguenay, Quebec
Why They’re WXPN’s Artist To Watch: The duo, known only as Klek and Khn de Poitrine for now, took the internet by storm not only with their eye-catching (and somewhat unsettling) appearance, but also their musical prowess.
Khn plays a double neck guitar, one neck serving as a “traditional” guitar and the other a bass. Notice the quotation marks around “traditional:” each neck’s fretboard features more frets than a standard guitar, allowing Khn to hit microtones that are often heard in Eastern European and Middle Eastern music.
Klek on the drums finds himself employing syncopation and polyrhythms. At times, the two mimic one another rhythmically to create a unifying sound that is contrasted with the head-scratching riffs coming from Khn’s guitar.
On stage, it’s just the two of them putting together the sound that blurs the lines of funk, jazz, prog, electronic, and even noise rock. That’s due in part to their use of looping effects, which lay the foundation for their otherworldly sounds.
You Might Know Them From: The band went from relative obscurity to internet sensations after they appeared on KEXP’s YouTube channel, where they performed a four-song set.
Since that video took off, the band has inspired reaction videos, think pieces, and deep dives into microtonality.
Fun Fact: “Angine de Poitrine” translates to “angina pectoris,” the chest pain one feels when the heart isn’t getting enough blood or oxygen. Also, The Angina Pectoris is the name of a German orchestral power metal band.
Essential Tracks: “Mata Zyklek,” “Fabienk,” and “Sherpa.”
Catch Them Live: Angine de Poitrine is playing Underground Arts on Sept. 16. That show sold out incredibly quickly, however. They’ll be back in Philly on Nov. 20 for a show at Franklin Music Hall. Tickets are available for more than $200 as of this writing!
