There’s a timeless beauty to the music of the British singer Elmiene. Some of his best songs, like “Someday” and “Mad at Fire,” harken back to the seductive slow-motion soul of classic 90’s R&B. His falsetto brings to mind a benevolent Brent Faiyaz but his music often eschews the trappings of his contemporaries across the pond. Sparse acoustic guitar and sweeping strings create the sonic bed for Elmiene’s grand romantic ballads. At just 22 years old, the singer has quickly proven himself as one to watch while fans await a full album. In the meantime, he’s already collaborating with some of the best, boundary-breaking British soul artists, with production from Sampha and a remix from BADBADNOTGOOD.
