Considered by many to be the north star for American folk music, John Prine broke through into the mainstream with his country music stylings bursting with social commentary inspired by his rural background and time served in the US military. His career and legacy are compared to that of Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, who all have cited Prine as an influence. John Prine performed music his whole life, and was known to mentor emerging artists including modern storytellers Jason Isbell, Brandi Carlile, and Robin Pecknold. In 2020, Prine lost his life due to complications associated with COVID-19.
