The former guitarist of Grammy-winning hardcore punk band Turnstile has been charged with attempted murder and felony assault in Maryland, and the alleged victim is the singer’s father.

Montgomery County, Maryland court records show Brady Ebert, 33, of Silver Spring, Maryland, was charged in connection with a Sunday incident on the 15000 block of Timberlake Drive in Silver Spring.

According to police, the incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Ebert, who was booted from the band in 2022 after their breakout album Glow On released, “intentionally struck a victim with a vehicle following a dispute with neighbors,” police said.

That victim, according to a statement from the band issued to Rolling Stone, was singer Brendan Yates’ father. The band said Ebert “went to the house of Brendan’s parents and used his vehicle to run over Brendan’s father, causing severe physical trauma.”

The elder Yates survived the incident, and the band said they are “hoping for the best possible outcome in his recovery.”

A warrant for Ebert’s arrest was issued Monday, and he was taken into custody Tuesday, court records show. He is being held without bail.

Ebert over the past several months has been critical of his former bandmates in what the band described as “baseless tirades” posted to social media.

“Turnstile cut ties with Brady Ebert in 2022 in response to a consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community,” the band’s statement reads. “After exhausting every available resource to support his access to help and recovery, a boundary ultimately had to be set when healthy communication was no longer possible and he began threatening violence.”

Ebert was recently kicked out of another band, The S.E.T., with the catalyst being his social media posts, the band said.
