This year’s Philly Music Fest ended this past weekend at a packed, raucous MilkBoy, with metal bands Horrendous, Lástima, and Shygodwin.

Shygodwin kicked the night off with a high-energy, full-band set. Their set included “Indoctri-nation,” a song they just released a video for, and “new enemies,” which they previously performed in-studio for a Key Studio Session in 2024. In that session, they performed as a three-piece, but with the addition of bass they now sound fuller and more confident.

Lástima is a black-metal outfit spearheaded by Richie DaVon. Before they began their set, they asked for all the white lights to be turned off so they could be washed in red. The harsh vocals were contrasted by prominent violin, which gave the songs a mystical feel.

According to headliner Horrendous, this was their last show in the city for at least the next year. Donning cutoff denim vests and Megadeth patches, the multi-subgenre metal band hit the ground running. The crowd was ready to move, even knocking me down at one point.

Horrendous was a treat to watch. Their friendship in real life translated into a real camaraderie on stage. Everyone leaned against one another as they played, their closeness seemingly recharging them for the next moment. Their most recent album, Ontological Mysterium, was released in 2023, but their set included older songs like “Ripped to Shreds,” which dates back to 2012.
