Indie Rock Hit Parade Live Session: Amy Millan
The Stars and Broken Social Scene member performs songs from her new solo album live in our studio…
Joining us in the studio for this Indie Rock Hit Parade Live Session is a luminary of the Canadian indie scene. For more than two decades, Amy Millan has been the co-leader of the Montreal group Stars, and a regular contributor to the super-collective Broken Social Scene. Around the time of Stars’ breakthrough, 2004’s Set Yourself on Fire, Millan released her debut solo album, Honey from the Tombs. After another solo release, Masters of the Burial, followed in 2009, Millan shifted her focus back to her collaborative groups. A chance meeting with musician/actor Jay McCarrol in 2023 reignited Millan’s interest in writing and recording outside her main band, a spark that has resulted in I Went to Find You.
Released earlier this year, the album incorporates electronic and organic textures and is more intimate than the material generally performed by Stars or Broken Social Scene. That’s especially true of the companion ‘redux’ version of the album that Millan released to coincide with the autumnal equinox.
Joined by guitarist/keyboardist Christopher McCarron (also of Stars) and drummer/percussionist Stefan Schneider, Millan performs a half dozen selections from I Went to Find You in this set. It’s Millan’s first visit to our studio since Stars’ World Café session in late 2010.
