Indie Rock Hit Parade Live Session: Anand Wilder
The former Yeasayer member makes his solo debut in our studio…
Joining us for this Indie Rock Hit Parade live session is an artist who, like recent guest Amy Millan, last visited our studio as a member of a beloved indie group. We first met Anand Wilder in the mid-2000s when Yeasayer, a band he co-founded, emerged from the vibrant New York scene. Since Yeasayer’s end in 2019, Wilder has released two solo albums, each one furthering his exploration of artsy psychedelic pop. The most recent, Psychic Lessons, came out earlier this year.
Wilder has roots in Philly, specifically at the University of Pennsylvania, and he reminisced about working at the student-run radio station. The stripped-down arrangement of this session, with guitarist Jachary and keyboardist Walter Fancourt providing spirited accompaniment, highlights the songs’ strong melodicism and Wilder’s swirling lyrics.
