World Cafe | Celebrating 35 Years of Music Discovery

For World Cafe’s 35th anniversary, we’re celebrating the show we love, public radio’s leading music program, with special programming all month.

Hear stories like the “First Time” features, revisiting the debut of some of our favorite guests on the Cafe including live sets and interviews by
@Clairo @ArloParks @wetlegband and more. Plus, enjoy encore episodes of “Backtracking,” where we revisit a guest’s memorable career with the likes of @davidgray and @LucindaWilliamsOfficial

And of course, we have specially-produced new episodes to pour over like an intimate conversation post-reunion for @AlabamaShakes, an adorable performance for the whole family with @thewiggles, a stripped down set with @RemiWolf, and so much more.

“World Cafe has always been about discovery — and rediscovery,” says host Raina Douris.

“Even years into hosting the show, I often still have moments where I am amazed by the depth of World Cafe‘s archives of performances and interviews. Getting to share gems from the archives as we celebrate World Cafe‘s 35th anniversary — while continuing to add to them with conversations and sessions from exciting new artists every week, is such a joy and a privilege.”

Produced by @wxpn in Philadelphia, World Cafe is hosted by Raina Douris and Stephen Kallao and distributed nationally by @nprmusic to more than 300 public radio stations nationwide.

“When we launched World Cafe in 1991, the idea was to create a place where listeners could discover great music and artists could have meaningful conversations about their work,” said World Cafe Executive Producer Bruce Warren.

“The music has changed enormously over 35 years, but that sense of discovery and connection has remained at the heart of the show. It’s incredible to look back at the artists who have come through the Cafe and realize how much musical history we’ve had the opportunity to document along the way.”

Thanks for being on this journey with us.
