WXPN’s Concert Picks: Tom Rush, Dessa, Sweet Pill, And More

The Philly area has plenty of shows coming up this week and weekend, and they prove the region’s taste for a wide breadth of genres. Check out recommendations for upcoming shows:
Wednesday: Gary Numan At Keswick Theater
Synth-wave pop legend Gary Numan is coming to Keswick Theater in Glenside this week, and he’s joined by LA-based alt duo TREMOURS. Numan back in 2011 discussed his impact on musicians across various genres with World Cafe.
Thursday: Dessa at Johnny Brenda’s
Minneapolis rapper and singer Dessa is bringing her tour to the city Thursday, and will be joined by Lady Midnight, Kuf Knotz & Christine Elise. She released two new tracks last year, “Camelot” and “Tough Call.”
Thursday: Sweet Pill at Union Transfer
Philly’s Sweet Pill are bringing their pop punk and midwest emo stylings back home as they tour their second full studio album, “Still there’s a Glow.” If this show is anything like the last time they celebrated a release locally, fans will be in for an electric night.
Friday: Caiola at Underground Arts
Mo Lowda & the Humble frontman Jordan Caiola will perform under his solo project, Caiola, which he launched in the thick of the COVID-19 pandemic. He will be joined by LULLANAS, comprised of local twins Atisha and Nishita Lulla.
Saturday: 50 Years of Rastaman Vibration at The Queen
Kenny Vanella, Glen Dacosta, Squidly Cole, Cecilia Grace, and Lower Case Blues will celebrate the 50-year anniversary of Bob Marley and the Wailers’ iconic album by playing it in full. Proceeds support The Music School of Delaware.
Sunday: Tom Rush at The Baby Grand
Folk legend Tom Rush, who helped shape the careers of artists such as Joni Mitchell and Jackson Browne, is coming to Wilmington Sunday to perform with Brendan Cleary. Listen to Rush’s 30A Songwriters Session on World Cafe.
