Since the release of her last album in 2009, Laura Gibson has been busy, playing over 200 shows and finding time to record a new album. La Grande, which came out earlier this week, isn’t a huge leap from her earlier work: the album is defined by Gibson’s airy voice, which floats above gently strummed acoustic guitar. But the occasional jazzy touch (such as in “Lion/Lamb” and “Milk-Heavy, Pollen-Eyed”) and contributions from members of The Decemberists and Calexico provide a little flourish. Laura Gibson performs with Cotton Jones and The Grand Nationals at 9 p.m. at Johnny Brenda’s; tickets to the 21+ show are $10. —Nicole Soll
