Indpendent’s Day, not to be confused with this, is a one-day music conference sponsored by the Philadelphia chapter of the Recording Academy. The conference focuses on “entrepreneurship for the music-maker” and is designer to bring together music industry professionals and those looking to break into the industry. The event is scheduled to take place Saturday, July 14th at Drexel University’s Nesbitt Hall from 9AM to 8PM. The day’s events are broken up into themed discussions focusing on the digital and business aspects of the music industry. The event concludes with a “superpanel” followed by a closing reception from 6 to 8PM where participants and presenters are invited to network. Speakers include Thomas Derr of Rock Ridge Music, Ariel Hyatt of Ariel PR, Drexel University’s Michelle Manghise, Chris Schwartz of Ruffhouse Records, Kristin Thompson of the Future Music Coalition, Tony Van Veen of Disc Makers/CDBaby, and WXPN’s own Bruce Warren.
