New live music venue coming to Fishtown?

Local developers revealed plans last night for a new entertainment complex in Fishtown anchored by a Live Nation music venue, according to a report in the Philadelphia Inquirer. Located just adjacent to The Barbary and down the street from Johnny Brenda’s, the venture proposed by Core Realty at a Fishtown Neighbors Association meeting would add a third theater-size venue to Philly’s music venue landscape. From the Inquirer:

[Core Realty’s] plan is to convert into multiple new uses the shuttered Ajax Metal Company near Frankford and North Delaware Avenues, across from SugarHouse Casino. Live Nation would open a 3,000-seat Fillmore Theater, which would be about the same size as its Tower Theater in Upper Darby.

The Ajax property would also house the 18-lane bowling alley, a restaurant, retail space, offices and a tasting room for a local distillery. Samschick did not disclose the operators, but said he would be ready to begin construction as soon as possible.

According to the report, the Fillmore Theater would host about 65 concerts a year, and two parking lots would be constructed adjacent to it on either side. The project is part of a broader entertainment complex they’re calling Penn Treaty Village, and the next step is for Core Realty to present it to the Philadelphia Planning Commission.
