RIP Terry Callier; listen to World Cafe performances circa 1998
Soul, jazz and folk singer-songwriter Terry Callier passed away on Saturday, October 27th. He was 67 years old. Callier was born in Chicago and released his influential debut album, The New Folk Sound of Terry Callier, in 1964. Over the years, Callier recorded with Beth Orton and Massive Attack. For fans of Nick Drake, Tim Buckley, Michael Kiwanuka and the early sides of Jerry Butler and Curtis Mayfield, Callier leaves behind a legacy of remarkable recordings that are soulful, spiritual and beautiful. In 1998, Callier released Time Peace and World Cafe host David Dye did an interview with him at the Andy Warhol Museum as part of a series of special recordings Dye did with World Cafe affiliate WYEP in Pittsburgh. It was the first of two appearances Callier did on the Cafe. Below, listen to several songs from the June 1998 World Cafe performance at the Warhol.
