Skate through Birmingham with Swim Deep in “King City” (playing Ortlieb’s Lounge on 3/20)
Birmingham, UK four-piece Swim Deep emerged out of a music scene that has become known as the birthplace of metal, with Black Sabbath, Judas Priest and Napalm Death each calling it home. These days, though, the West Midlands city is cultivating a new generation of bands that are much more pop angled with a grunge asthetic. With their upbeat afro-psych counterparts Peace and shoegazing buddies in Jaws, Swim Deep have put Birmingham back on the proverbial map with just a handful of singles and b-sides thanks to their relentless tour schedule and undeniably catchy riffs. Currently recording a full-length with Charlie Hugall (Florence & The Machine, Lucy Rose), Swim Deep will come to the States for a few dates this spring including an appearance at Ortlieb’s Lounge with The Homophones and Fantastic Imagination presented by Bands in the Backyard on March 20th.
