Chris Forsyth announces new label and new record (playing Johnny Brenda’s on 4/25)
Chris Forsyth, a local guitar player who has wowed us over the years with his boundary-breaking work in Peeesseye and as a solo musician / collaborator, has signed to North Carolina / Philadelhpia label Paradise of Bachelors for the fall 2013 release of Solar Motel. From POB:
Chris is highly regarded as a composer, improviser, and collaborator who has worked with a remarkable array of musicians in New York, Philadelphia, and beyond. In Fall 2013, you can expect his mindblowing full-band album Solar Motel (the follow-up to last year’s excellent Kenzo Deluxe), named for a derelict roadside hotel in his native New Jersey…. [Solar Motel] is a conversation changer, the strongest work he’s done to date–which is no faint praise.
Solar Motel was posted briefly on Forsyth’s Soundcloud account but has since been removed. To experience the new pieces from the experimental composer in full effect don’t miss his opening set for Akron / Family on April 25th at Johnny Brenda’s. Tickets and information can be found here. Below, watch a video of Chris Forsyth performing with fellow Paradise of Bachelors signee and Philadelphia native Steve Gunn at last August’s Kensington Picnic.
