Devandra Banhart’s spring tour brings him to Union Transfer on 6/10
If it’s been a few years since you checked in with charter freak-folkie Devandra Banhart, here’s a minor shocker – he’s no longer the hairy, bearded sketchburger whose weird warble charmed the indie rock world ten years ago. He cleaned up and, on a recent cover of Magnet Magazine (above), looked like something out of a Men’s Warehouse ad. His latest record, Mala, came out a couple weeks back and it’s a bit more reined in and focused – but nonetheless vibey. (Check out the chillwave vibes on “Für Hildegard von Bingen” below, and marvel at its odd unofficial synchronization with scenes from Ingmar Bergman’s Cries and Whispers.) Banhart is headed out on a spring / summer tour that brings him to Philly on the 10th of June at Union Transfer; tickets for the show are on sale now, more information can be found at the WXPN Concert Calendar.
