Calling all musicians and music industry folks: come to the Philadelphia Grammy chapter’s “Independent’s Day” on Saturday
This Saturday, May 11 is the Philadelphia Grammy Chapter’s Independent’s Day, a professional development conference focusing on “entrepreneurship for the music maker.” The day-long event will include panels, speakers and lots of networking opportunity and is being held at the Caplan Performance Center at the University of the Arts. starting at 9 a.m.
The keynote speaker is Justin Kalifowitz, the President of Downtown Music Publishing and co-founder of Songtrust. The day will also include panels about branding, marketing, social media, building a fanbase, how to use digital platforms effectively, how to monetize your content, how to develop business plans, and other facets of the industry including the administration of music publishing assets, performing rights, and digital licensing.
The event will offer musicians a chance to have their music be listened to in various “pitchathon” sessions. In addition to the keynote speaker, some of the panelist for the day include folks from Fame House digital marketing and management; Chad Taylor from the band Live, Jeff Price, the founder of TuneCore and spinArt Records, Monika Julien of Cornerstone Promotion, and various other industry and local media folks.
