UK indie dance sensation Bastille making its Philly debut in Septemeber at Union Transfer
Woah man, let me take a second and tell you how stoked I am for UK indie dance sensation Bastille to make its Philly debut. I was traveling across the pond earlier this spring, and the band – primarily the project of singer / multi-instrumentalist Dan Smith – was all over BBC Radio 1. I mean that in the best way; songs like “Pompeii” are catchy but don’t wear thin, and their sound is a super tight bridge between Calvin Harris style dance-pop and the bookish, driving Vampire Weekend indie rock world. After several days of traveling around the island and bopping to all the stuff from the Bad Blood LP that was in rotation, I caught Bastille at the Liverpool Sound City festival and was duly impressed. Live, Smith fleshes out his music with a full band and lots of auxiliary percussion, freeing him up to own the role of super charismatic frontman – folks might call it EDM, but that’s seriously short-selling it, since it encompasses a lot more. This week the band announced its first U.S. tour and makes its Philadelphia debut at Union Transfer on September 29th; tickets go on sale this Friday, June 28th, at noon via the venue’s website. Check out the “Pompeii” video below, listen to the Haunt EP on Spotify and get ready to dance.
