San Francisco-based The Dodos ripped through a brisk 70 minute set on Saturday. A sold-out Johnny Brenda’s crowd swayed, stomped, and sang along with the catchy and urgent rock of Meric Long and Logan Kroeber. Featuring tracks from their 2013 release Carrier including “Confidence” and “Substance,” The Dodos took flight with the new material. And despite the passing of touring guitarist and music influence Christopher Reimer, the band is a cohesive whole with new touring parter Joe Haege. Long emphatically strummed and sang and Kroeber put on a drumming clinic while Johnny Brenda’s strobe lights blasted forth. And the crowd responded with aural joy, especially during two songs from The Dodos’ second LP Visiter:  “Red and Purple,” where an impromptu sing along could be heard, and “Fools,” a charged show closer.
