Hailing from Brisbane, Australia, poppy indie charmers Cub Sport made their first visit to the United States this October on the heels of their fantastic Paradise EP. The five-piece band – Tim Nelson on vocals and piano, Zoe Davis on vocals and bass, Sam Netterfield on vocals and keys, Daniel Puusaari on Drums and Andrew Williams on guitar – debuted in 2012 with the infectious Told You So and its lively mix of catchy melodies, witty lyrical stories and studied songwriting. The new material takes a decidedly island-pop approach (hence the name) and the band showcased it in a barnstorming run of dates at CMJ. But they also found the time to take a trip south to Philadelphia for a comically large pizza (shoutouts, Allegro delivery) and an in-studio performance for the Indie Rock Hit Parade, marking our very first Live Session for the show. Stream it and download it below – it features the title tracks from both Paradise and Told You So; the song “Pool” from Paradise; and a new one called “Love Crimes.” And stay tuned for more in the coming months, since the Cub Sport crew told us they’d be back for a fuller run of U.S. tour dates in 2014.
