The Key Studio Sessions: Amanda X
Just over a year ago, Philly power trio Amanda X emerged with their debut EP Ruin the Moment, but they’re hardly as mysterious as their name might imply. Singer-guitarist Cat Park is best known as the bassist for garage punks Bandname. Drummer Tiffany Yoon is performing in a band for the first time, but she’s been a part of the music scene as a photographer for a half dozen years. Holding down the low end, vocals and co-songwriting duties is Kat Bean. There’s no Amanda, they like to say, just two cats and a Tiffany. The songs are raucous and melodic, and will probably make you start digging out your 90s indie comparisons. But really this band is a thing unto itself, both heavy hitting, sensitive and thought provoking. In their Key Studio Sedsion, Amanda X gives us a taste of their chemistry and personalities (check out the intro vamp on “Low and Mean” as well as their full length debut that Jeff Zeigler is recording right now. Look for it in 2014. Catch the band next Wednesday, November 13th when they play The Barbary with Paws and Little Big League. Find tickets and more info on the show here.
