Courtney Barnett to make her Philly debut at Boot & Saddle on 2/20
Melbourne singer, guitarist and songwriter Courtney Barnett is making her Philly debut at the Boot & Saddle on February 20th. The 24 year old recently released The Double EP: A Sea of Split Peas which includes her first two EP’s; EP1 I’ve Got A Friend Called Emily Ferris and EP2 How To Carve A Carrot into A Rose. Lyrically, Barnett has some of the story telling pacing of Dylan, the wry introspection of Liz Phair, and the ability to make some of the most normal every day occurrences seem like important life lessons. Musically, on songs like “Out Of The Woodwork,” “Anonymous Club,” and “Avant Gardener,” she shows off an intentional and confident swath of guitar rock. Her band, The Courtney Barnetts, are versatile, sharp, yet raggedy and smart enough to inject just enough slackerism into the sound to make you feel like you’re listening to someone play some of their favorite records by Pavement, Green On Red, PJ Harvey and The Triffids all at the same time. Sample some music below and go see Barnett when she plays Boot & Saddle on February 20th.
