Listen to Levee Drivers’ new Live At East Coast Recording EP, see them at Kung Fu Necktie
Though they’re a consistent force on the Philly live music scene, Levee Drivers hasn’t released new music since their 2008 self-titled debut. That EP begat the irresistible railroad blues-country jam “Tennesee Girl,” of course, and it’s the band’s most popular song. But anybody who has seen August John Lutz III and his cohorts perform knows that they have more than five songs in their catalog.
Last week, the Levees released Live at East Coast Recording, a collection of five new songs tracked in the Warminster studio it takes its name from by producer Matthew Phillips. It has an acoustic undercurrent, so it’s less rowdy than the Levee Drivers you may be used to hearing, but make no mistake – this is a sweetly arranged full-band Americana-twang outing. “Bourbon Coated” is an immediate winner, as is “Stars and Highway Blues”; the band recently recorded rocked-up versions of both of these songs for their Key Studio Session that we’ll bring you next week.
They play an EP release show with The Lawsuits at Kung Fu Necktie on December 6th; tickets and information can be found here. Listen to the EP below.
