Indie folk rock outfit The Lawsuits have been making quite the musical splash since releasing their EP Cool Cool Cool, and people outside of Philadelphia are starting to take notice.

NYC Taper hosted the band for its Backyard Brunch sessions, recording their live set (counter-intuitively) in a small living room in Brooklyn, NY. Driven by the gut-wrenching vocals of Vanessa Winters and singer-songwriter Brian Dale Allen Strouse, the stripped down (although not fully acoustic) session brings out the grass-roots sound and feel that is so pertinent to the band’s foundation. The session includes songs from The Lawsuits’ Cool Cool Cool, as well as tracks from their first EP Numbers and the 2013 single release “Love is Weight.” To top it off, the band does an impromptu cover of Tom Petty’s “American Girl.”

Stream and download the full set via NYC Taper here. The Lawsuits will be performing at Kung Fu Necktie on 12/6 and Milkboy on New Year’s Eve 12/31. Find tickets and more info for both shows here. Watch The Lawsuits perform “Long Drive Home” for their Key Studio Session below.
