Remembering John Lennon

Today we remember the life and work of John Lennon who was murdered outside his apartment in New York City this day in 1980. Lennon had a unique tie to Philly as a result of his long standing relationship with newsman Larry Kane, who has written extensively about the band since Kane befriended and toured with The Beatles in 1964 and 1965. For years, Kane was the very popular iconic lead anchor for Action News for many years. Lennon visited Philly a number of times and some of our greatest memories include his appearances on The Mike Douglas Show and his guest DJ stint on WFIL radio for the “Helping Hand Marathon” in May of 1975. Then there’s the time Lennon did the weather report on Action News that same week. For some, it’s a Philly memory almost as powerful as Lennon’s music. Below, some videos of Lennon performing on The Mike Douglas show (Lennon & Yoko co-hosted on the show for a week in 1972), and of course, Larry Kane on Lennon’s weather report.
