Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler share "White Balloons" off of Slant of Light - WXPN | Vinyl At Heart

Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler

“White Balloons,” the first sampling off of Mary Lattimore & Jeff Zeigler‘s debut LP collaboration Slant of Light, will probably turn out to be one of the more contemplative and subtle compositions on the record.  The pairing of Lattimore’s delicate harp playing bouyed by Zeigler’s distant hum of synths transports the listener to the time that the album was recorded – it was during the snowstorms of early 2014 when the city was blanketed in white and quite literally stopped in its tracks.

Though this will be the duo’s first official release together, they are no strangers to collaboration both as a pair and with others.  When they stopped by for a couple of Folkadelphia sessions in February and November of 2013 Lattimore and Zeigler showed us just how heavily beautiful harp, guitar and synth compositions can get, so expect things to get noisy at least for a track or two on Slant of Light.

“White Balloons” (one of four tracks, including the intriguing album-opener “Welsh Corgis in the Snow”) is peaceful and reflective, soothing and reinvigorating; a much-needed recharge for any time of year.  Take a listen to song below and download it via Soundcloud.  Slant of Light will get a vinyl and digital release through Thrill Jockey Records this fall.  They will be performing at the Kensington Picnic this Saturday, August 9th; information can be found here.
