NYC's Second Child bring Beginners EP to XO Lounge

NYC outfit Second Child will bring their new EP Beginners to XO Lounge tomorrow night.  The record showcases the duo of Alex DeSimine and Alex Tremitiere’s musical range, stretching from Americana-tinged indie-rock staples to heartfelt solo love songs.

The balance between the two Alexs’ vocal arrangements is reminiscent of The Head and the Heart (“Free Again”) or The Civil Wars (“Love Will See You”), swinging between free-spirited expressions of joy and tightly performed, almost acapella harmonies.

Over the course of the EP’s six tracks, each member gets their own time in the spotlight.  Tremitiere’s “I Wander” is a delicate, mystical finger-picked tune (think Mariee Sioux’s “Swimming Through Stone”) that builds into beat-driven, looped electronic remix of itself.  DeSimine keeps things a little simpler on his title track solo, a raw, demo-sounding love song that speaks directly to you.

Second Child plays XO Lounge on South Street tomorrow night, along with Ruby Shots. More information can be found here.  Listen to Beginners below.
