Red Martina’s new song “Rhythm and Rhyme” is music for the soul
Red Martina is proof that Philadelphia is a city of unique and talented artists. Band members Stoupe (the DJ behind Jedi Mind Tricks and Dutch), Ish Quintero (of Dutch), Hayley Cass and Emcee Noesis are gearing up to play their first live show at MilkBoy on November 21st, celebrating the release of a new album called Come on Home.
What’s interesting about Red Martina is that the sound they create isn’t contained to one specific genre. They approach their music the way a chef approaches gumbo, throwing all types of musical ingredients into one pot. The Red Martina recipe might read like one pound of groovy jazz, two cups of soul, a half pound of psychedelic surf rock, a 12-ounce can of sultry blues and a quarter cup of electronic instrumentals. This recipe may also be how they created their brand new song “Rhythm And Rhyme,” which is probably why the song feels like it’s food for the soul.
While the group is reminiscent of Amy Winehouse mixed with a little Maroon 5 and Gang Starr, Red Martina stays original with a vibrant personality.
