There are a few names that everyone who is entrenched in the Philly EDM scene knows and one of the standards is Glitch Squad frontman Drew Mercadante, better known by his DJ/production handle Jack Deezl. Since his debut in Philadelphia in 2011, Deezl has released an EP (2012’s Unrest) and 2013’s Disillusion LP.  His live outings have been numerous as well as, clocking in spin time at venues across the city and sharing bills with acts like Kill The Noise, Adventure Club, Seven Lions, Big Gigantic, Waveracer, RJD2, and Birdy Nam Nam (just to name a few).  With a new effort on the way, we spoke with the innovative spinner about how he continues to push the EDM envelope and got a sneak peek with a premiere of his new single “Way Far Out.”

Deezl has gained notoriety for his production style, pulling influence from hip-hop, experimental electronic, and all over the electronic dance spectrum on his glitchy, yet fluid, tracks. The variance in style is exemplified in both of his previous releases with no two of his tracks sounding the same.

Hopefully he’ll be able to carry on this trend. When we asked him how he plans on taking the new record to a new height, Deezl told us “it’s gonna be an audiovisual piece. Right now I’m still learning the software I’m using to animate it, so it could take…. months?” Nevertheless, the project is certainly innovative, utilizing animation to accompany the tracks, providing a more in-depth and engaging experiences for fans.

During the interview, Deezl conceded “it’s been a while since I’ve put anything up,” but that ends now with the premiere of “Way Far Out,” which you can hear below.  The track, which was mixed and mastered at Sleepless Sound Studio, has an almost chiptune intro before quickly developing into a funky-yet-progressive breakdown accompanied by some busy vocal sampling and an almost floaty array of synths over a nice, driving break-beat groove.

“Way Far Out” won’t be up on SoundCloud for a few more days, so get your exclusive download below.
