Philly singer-songwriter Ali Wadsworth has been an integral part of the local music scene since moving to Philly from Vermont in the early Oughts. After performing with Dan Schwartz of Good Old War in their band Unlikely Cowboy for a couple of years, Wadsworth has since been performing solo and has been an indispensable back up singer. She’s a force of energy and singer that keeps a lot of bands sounding fresh and soulful, and she’s capable of singing everything from folk to rock, and jazz to blues.

For WXPN’s Philly Local 2014 Year In Review cover song project, Wadsworth chose to sing Hozier’s “Take Me To Church.” Listen to it below.

The next time you can see Ali in action will be when she is part of The Lower 40 band performing at the book release show for Tara Murtha’s Ode To Billy Joe at Underground Arts on Friday, December 5th. The Lower 40 is an all-star collaboration of Philly musicians featuring bandleader and bassist Phil D’Agostino, guitarist Brad Hinton, drummer Matty Muir, violinists Jay Ansill and Hollis Payer, Ansel Barnum on harmonica and Larry Toft on trombone, with singers Birdie Busch, Kerry Hallett, Allison Polans, Susan Rosetti and Ali.
