Stylish Philly singer-songwriter Christopher Davis-Shannon is marking the holidays with a free downloadable cover of “Christmas in New Orleans,” written by Dick Sherman and Joe Van Winkle and popularized in a 1955 recording by Louis Armstrong. It’s a swinging acoustic jazz sing-song number with bouncing upright bass and breezy harmonies.

For this recording, Davis-Shannon collaborated with Tess Emma, who is getting ready to release her debut EP on Christmas Day and performing at World Cafe Live’s Mistletoe Jam on December 26th; Davis-Shannon, meanwhile, is debuting his new trio at Boot and Saddle on January 17th. (Information on both shows can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar).

The track is a name-your-own price download through December 31st, which hypothetically means you could grab it for free. But if you choose to pay for it, all proceeds will be donated to music and education nonprofit Rock to the Future, so pony up! Listen to “Christmas in New Orleans” below.
