Okay, okay, technically “Heart It Races” is not Dr. Dog‘s song. It’s a cover of a single from the aughties Australian indie pop band Architecture in Helsinki. When AiH released a 2007 remix single for the song, they included a couple covers of the song – including one by our Philly boys, who at that point were best known for their We All Belong album and touring with My Morning Jacket.

While AiH has remained active (they released an album this year called NOW + 4EVA), they haven’t played the states or Philly since about 2011; Dr. Dog, on the other hand, did such a knockout reinterpretation of the song’s synthpoppy original version that it’s really become their own. It’s a regular part of the band’s setlist, but until now, it’s never been available on any of Dr. Dog.

That changes next month with the release of Live From a Flamingo Hotel, the band’s first-ever live album, due out January 13th on ANTI- Records. A smokin’ version of “Heart it Races” is included in the set (it had to be!) and today the band released a new live video for the song. Check it out below.
