Mic Stewart and Reef The Lost Cauze play the next Red Bull Sound Select concert
The latest Red Bull Sound Select Concert – headlined by Brooklyn hip hop artists Skyzoo and Torae (also known as the Barrel Brothers) – will also showcase some of Philly’s best talent: hip hop newcomer Mic Stewart and underground sensation Reef The Lost Cauze.
A onetime Temple attendee, Stewart found love in the bars and credits both coffee and cigarettes for allowing him to write his debut LP Peaceworld, which burst him onto the Philly scene in 2013. Stewarts’ second project, an EP called The Big L Mixtape: Hello my name is Michael Stewart was released last year and has allowed the Philly rapper to continue to gain notoriety and respect from passionate hip hop heads and musicians alike. With the release of his newest project along, with a 2014 that consisted of both live events and several unreleased tracks including his “0 to 100” freestyle and a Samlive produced track “Just A Dream”, Stewart is ready to continue his climb and grind in 2015 with his first performance of the year.
As far as Stewart’s good friend Reef The Lost Cauze is concerned, he’s been a prominent face in Philadelphia underground hip hop since the late 1990’s. 2015 will hopefully see the release of his musical project The Hand That Feeds. Reef has also come out of 2014 releasing projects, both with his frequent collaborators Army of The Pharaohs. Death Reborn and Heavy Lies the Crown are efforts that continue to remain true to Reef’s music and core belief and ensures to those that need it that the Philadelphia underground is indeed live and well.
With accolades that include placing 1st in Philadelphia’s Mic Check Battle of 2003 and producing numerous solo albums – including his experimental Invisible Empire and critically acclaimed debut High Life – Reef is likely to shine in the moment as he also takes the stage to perform in the Red Bull special that is sure to be a treat for any hip hop fan.
Check out music from both artists below. The show takes place at Underground Arts on Thursday, January 15th; and get tickets and more information on the XPN Concert Calendar.
