Today’s Free At Noon featured local bluesy alt rocker Ron Gallo, who opened for rock and roll quintet Diamond Rugs. After strolling on stage, he remarked that the event was a bit unexpected, explaining that he woke up to a phonecall telling him “You got a gig.” Now rocking it solo, the former Toy Soldiers frontman unveiled some of his most recent work, solely playing songs off his album currently in the works. Breaking into his track “Kill the Medicine Man”, Gallo unleashed his unique vocal timbre to a captivated Free At Noon, howling into the microphone with control but enough ferocity to put weight behind his words. The crowd was also introduced to new tracks like “Expensive Hair”, an imaginative piece that Gallo explained he wrote after watching four girls stroll by him in Chicago’s Lincoln Park. With just him and his guitar, Gallo was able to fill the room with his sultry, quirky songs and despite the last minute nature, Ronny delivered a solid and sincere performance.
