#XPNDeadDay: Through the ages with the Grateful Dead at The Spectrum
Philly has always had a great relationship with The Grateful Dead. The first time the band played in Philly was at the Electric Factory in April, 1968. The band played the Spectrum over 50 times; their first show at the Spectrum was in September 21st, 1972. As WXPN celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Grateful Dead with 24 hours of the Dead today, we scoured Youtube for some of the Dead’s shows at The Spectrum for you to watch and listen to, including a Jerry Garcia Band show from the Spectrum in 1989.
Watch/listen below to some of the Dead’s great Spectrum moments, and tune in to XPN beginning at 6 a.m. tomorrow for our 24-hour Day of the Dead in celebration of the legendary band’s 50th anniversary. Long live The Grateful Dead!
