Stream Summer Fiction’s Beach Boys-loving Himilaya via SPIN
The Beach Boys’ landmark album Pet Sounds is widely regarded as one of the best albums ever recorded. Naturally, there have been and will always be artists who try to emulate that perfection. Bill Ricchini’s project Summer Fiction is the next in line to give it a shot, and let’s just say he has put a new spin on that sun-shining sound on the new Himilaya LP.
The Philly native totally doesn’t mind stepping into familiar territory, especially on the piano-driven “God Only Knows”-esque title track, and the tambourine and harmony-infused work of “Lauren Lorraine”. But he does bring his own take to beach pop on songs like “Religion of Mine” and “By My Side”. These songs showcase his knack for shy, reserved acoustic ballads.
The instrumentals “Manchester” and “Cathedral” also breathe fresh life, as well as an unpredictable turn of events, into this album. Go for a drive in your little deuce coupe and make sure to take this album with you. Catch Summer Fiction’s Philadelphia album release show at Boot and Saddle on June 20th; tickets and more information can be found at the XPN Concert Calendar.
